Good lighting installation starts with a plan. Here's the rule-of-thumb layout we use with homeowners.
How many lights
Divide ceiling height by two to get spacing in feet (an 8 ft ceiling → lights about 4 ft apart). Keep the first row about half that distance from the wall.
Size and beam
4-inch and 6-inch are the standard sizes; slim wafer LEDs fit where there's no attic access. Use wider beams for general light and narrow beams for accenting art or counters.
Color temperature
2700K feels warm and cozy; 3000K is a clean neutral; 4000K+ reads office-bright. Most homes look best at 2700–3000K with dimmers.
Dimmers and smart control
Pair LED-rated dimmers or smart switches with your fixtures so scenes can change from cooking to dinner to movie night.
